I'm an Engineer x Designer x Entrepreneur
My name is Ty Thanh Doan. I'm currently a Mechanical Engineer working on applied electro-mechanical equipment and engineering solutions. I have a passion for Design, Programming, and Entrepreneurship. I'm interested in all things technical, innovative technology, and original designs. I believe in a holistic approach when it comes to engineering. I think it's important to have perspective from both knowledge and understanding from a technical side as well as take a "hand's on" approach. It's important to me to be constantly learning, adding new skills, and improving my current skillset.
This website contains a collection of my own personal work as an engineer, designer, and personal projects as well as a collection of blog posts about my experiences. I'm achievement driven and highly motivated to achieve my goals. I hope that you find my website and projects interesting or inspire you to build your own projects as well!
Read MoreIn this project, we designed a shell-and-tube heat exchanger based on design specifications outlined in the project details. The unit is used to cool a hot water stream using a cold water stream. The coolant was placed on the tube-side pass and the heatant on the shell-side pass.
This project was a design for a simple smart mirror product taken from the product design phase to the prototyping phase. Further iterations could be mass manufactured. I chose to build a simple smart mirror designed to incorporate attractive industrial design features as well as combine tight budget requirements.
This project contains my work toward Kaggle's 2017 Data Science Bowl Competition. Each entrant was tasked with developing an algorithm that can accurately determine when lesions in lungs are cancerous given a data set of thousands of high-resolution lung scans provided by the National Cancer Institute.
This project involved using Finite Element Analysis techniques of typical universal coil springs with the average load of a sedan sized car using ANSYS. This analysis focuses on comparing different materials with loading cases as well as failure analysis.
This project was my design for a temperature regulation system using variable speed fans and temperature and humidity sensors. This system should self-regulate the temperature of the units it's installed in and provide feedback to the admin in case of maintenence.
This project is my solution to the second project of Udacity's Self-Driving Car Engineer Nanodegree Program which involved building and training a deep neural network to classify images from the German Traffic Sign Recognition Benchmark Dataset.
The Organized Desk & Productivity
The difference between an organized and tidy workspace compared to the disorganized one just doesn’t compare. A cluttered workspace just simply feels tight and claustrophobic. The ability to spread out your workload with all your tools within reach and able to be grabbed without a second thought is such a simple luxury. This thought extends to a lifestyle as well. A cluttered living space spreads to clutter in other areas of your life as well. There comes a simple beauty from an organized space.
Sitting down to start a project in a cluttered desk feels like working between a rock and a hard place. No room to work - no room to breathe...
Learning to effectively optimize your daily workflow can increase your efficiency and productivity by a huge margin. One thing that I’ve found very helpful in making the “thought” part of my work more efficient is writing down my thought-process in my daily agenda. It’s kind of a blow-by-blow, where I explain to myself what I’m doing and why.
Usually I have my bullet journal open on my desk ask I’m working. I’ve learned that getting the right level of detail is more an art than a science. For example, I spent an entire job analyzing a job to measure failure rates of a system I was tasked with designing only for me to realize that the failure I was trying to measure was already accounted for in the material of the design...
It’s always been a dream of mine to own my own my business. Although I’ve worked my fair share of jobs ranging from pizza delivery driver to assembler at a manufacturing plant to working in an IT team to a professional tutor; I’ve always harbored a dream to be an entrepreneur. However, I’d come up with ideas, but kept getting stuck at some point and never following through.
I’ve always had an interest in computing and technology, and have built my first computer when I was 10 years old. Since then I’ve built countless PC builds, and developed skills in both IT and dabbled in programming. So I decided to take the knowledge from my skills to build and create workstations and builds for particular niches within the personal computing industry...
